An original hymn with text by Reny Manwaring below.  Watch on YouTube: Alongside Me, hymn

I've walked among the souls of men
heard their footfall crowding in
and yet sometimes
I failed to see
my Lord, Savior,
alongside me

I felt the rush of worldly pace
it sped my heart and flushed my face
yet my quickened step
was not for Him,
but surging with
the souls of men

where to? you ask-
I cannot say
but hurry still along the way
past the weary-hearted,
hands hung down
their needy cry the crowds do drown

in the flurry and the haste
to fill in me that empty place
I've missed
the peaceful, quiet hush
that only comes without
the rush

yet from behind
a gentle nudge to
quit the race and spare the grudge
that oft' accompanied me in my walk
among the avaricious flock

and so,
I stopped
and paused to hear
a quieter voice that drew me near
I felt compelled at once to stay,
strangely felt the need to pray

fell to my knees,
my head bowed low,
inside my soul the voice did grow
I recognized
at last
His sound
my supplicating heart
unbound

it all spilled out upon the earth
in truth, I wrestled with my worth
my tears were
each a sorrow found
my sins, my hurts
pooled on the ground

again,
the voice within my soul
consumed my empty
made me whole
unto Himself my wounds
He bound
my broken heart
His love surrounds

when once I walked
my eyes obscured,
my purpose and my vision blurred,
'twas all along-
now plain to see,
my Lord, my Savior
alongside me.
