An original hymn written about the martyrdom of the prophet Joseph Smith. The melody to A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief can be sung as duet to this hymn. Text by Mark Fotheringham below.  Watch on YouTube: The Prophet and Seer

VERSE 1
The Prophet and Seer,
His dear brother too,
Still walk side by side,
Though their work here is through.

The mob, painted black,
Came to Carthage to kill,
But the things Joseph taught
Will live with us still.

His fame and his name
Will never be slain,
Though now we will mourn with
Dear Emma's refrain:

"It's more than enough,
No more need you roam.
Your work here is done;
With Hyrum fly home."

VERSE 2
For people of God
Revelations abound
In the words of the book
He brought forth from the ground.

Testators though dead,
Their words now in force,
Will lead us to God
As we follow their course.

His spirit has flown
A martyrs' bright way,
Where Father and The Son
Tell the end of his lay:

"It's more than enough,
No more need you roam.
Your work there is done;
With Hyrum come home."
