Oh, to have been in Kirtland

When the veil was opened wide,

To see the Savior standing

In the air, and there abide.

To hear the great Jehovah,

Rushing waters as His voice,

Proclaiming sins forgiven:

“Lift your heads and so rejoice.”

The temple was accepted

As a holy House of God,

Endowing saints with power

So to spread His Word abroad.

Oh, to have been in Kirtland

Seeing Moses there appear,

Committing keys to gather

Those of Israel, far and near.

Elias and Elijah

There proclaimed a blessing sure

For future generations

And for those who went before.

The saints would be perfected

By the covenants they made,

And reaching out to others

Who had lost their way or strayed.

Oh, to have been in Kirtland,

Visions glorious to see,

To know the restoration

Of the gospel makes men free.

The Lord will meet His servants

In the House that bears His name,

There pouring out a blessing

Only the righteous can claim.

And if we still are worthy

To commandments given there,

Our temples will be a refuge

From all our trouble and care.
