A beautiful, sacred Easter hymn with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Kathryn W. Hales.
YouTube video: Two Palms, hymn
Text:
Palms branches outstretched and waving,
In Hosannas and joyful praise,
Jesus on a colt riding through
Jerusalem’s narrow ways.
Shouts from adoring subjects,
Heralding their Messiah King,
Expecting their long-waited deliverance
His foretold reign would bring.
But other palms in human form,
Spread out in branch-like hands,
Nails pierced the tender flesh
By Roman death commands.
Shrill shouts of derision echoed
Upon the dreadful scene,
And sobs of mournful sorrow,
For Jesus who hung suffering.
Two palms, one word, both meanings,
Bringing life through Jesus Lord,
Deliverance from sin and death
According to His word.
Two palms shown to His faithful friends
In the upper room above,
Palms outstretched in evidence
Of His eternal love.
