This touching hymn, with music by Kevin G. Pace and text by Mary Ann W. Snowball, beautifully reflects the story of the woman who anointed Jesus in Bethany. With tender reverence, it explores the themes of love, sacrifice, and devotion, emphasizing that true giving flows from the heart. The gentle melody and thoughtful lyrics teach that Christ values sincere, loving sacrifice over mere material worth. As the hymn progresses, it invites each listener to personally embrace this principle, offering love and service to the Savior as the woman did—freely, fully, and with deep devotion.
YouTube video: I Can Sacrifice For Him, hymn
Text:
While Jesus dined in Bethany, a woman who He knew
Brought some precious ointment there. It cost a lot, it’s true.
Some people thought it should not be anointing for his head,
But Jesus said she brought a gift filled with love instead.
They thought the money used for oil could all be for the poor.
Jesus taught them carefully what sacrifice was for.
He taught that giving with great love was worth the purest price,
And I can also serve this way; I can sacrifice.
I can sacrifice for Him; it’s Jesus that I love.
When I sacrifice for Him, I also feel his love.
