Before the birth of Jesus True Joseph was betrothed

To Mary, his companion, For they had made an oath.

The Jewish code and custom Required strictest laws.

So when Mary was with child, Her Joseph only paused.

Then He pondered in his heart His love for her so true.

Could he keep the rule so set, And also love her too?

While he thought upon these things An angel came at night

To relieve his troubled mind; He soon knew what was right.

Joseph was the guardian For Mary’s first-born Son—

A foreordained position To help the Holy One.

Joseph was selected more Than any other man

To help in raising Jesus; This was the Father’s plan.

So, when unforeseen events Give challenge to our days,

We may remember Joseph, To keep God’s sacred ways.
