Who is this Mary, mother dear?  Who is this virgin fair?

Who is this chosen vessel With her attributes so rare?

She heard the words of Gabriel, The angel from on high:

“Hail, thou art highly favoured.” And her needs would be supplied.

“Fear not,” for God was with her now To bring forth his own Son.

For she obeyed in every way; This was the Holy One.

“Behold the handmaid of the Lord, according to thy word,”

Was Mary’s sure response that day; God’s love for her assured.

Then Mary pondered all these things And kept them in her heart.

The wonder of the promised vow Of which she’d be a part

Distilled upon her mind and soul.  Of women she was blessed.

Who is this mother for God’s Son?  From all, she was the best.
