1. Were you there to see the virgin Mary fair? 

Did you hear the Angel speak to her with care?

Were you there to hear him as he gave the news

of the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord?

Were you there to see her humbly bow? 

Were you there to see them travel far?

To hear the keeper of the inn deny

The Christ a place to lay his head?

Did you see them lay Him in a manger low

and hear the cattle's lullaby?

2. Were you there to hear the Heav'nly Angels sing? 

Were you there to see the new star in the sky?

Were you there  to see the shepherds in the field? 

Were you there to see the wise men come?

Were you there to hear the Heav'nly choir

singing "Peace on earth, good will to men!

Hosanna, glory in the highest?"

Did you join in singing praise to Him?

Did you see the Christ child lay in swaddling clothes

and see Him sleeping peacefully?

3. Were you there to offer frankincense and myrrh?

Did your soul rejoice to see the Son of God?

Did you sing Hosannas to your Heav'nly King

Will you purify your soul from sin?

Did your spirit leap for joy within

at the coming of your Savior King,

To see the birth of great Emmanuel?

Were you there to worship at His feet?

Did you promise to remember Him each day,

to keep the Christ child in your heart?

4. Will you keep the memory of our Savior bright?

Will you follow His example in your life?

Will you bless the lives of others in your way?

Will you serve Him for eternity?

Then one day, we'll kneel at His feet,

We will hear Him call to us by name?

We'll feel the wounds imprinted in His hands,

We will see the hole that marks His side,

We will bathe His feet with tears of joy that day,

We'll bask beneath His loving gaze.

We will feel Him grasp us in His loving arms

and welcome us back home to stay.
