Cursing the ground in Adam’s day, God brought forth thorns quite lasting.

Thorns in the flesh and in the side, thorns which would seem to abide.

Jesus Christ did ensure relief, promising peace and saving.

Still, He would die through evil means with a cruel crown to be seen.

Crown of thorns, this crown of thorns showed His royalty.

Through His pain and suffering, this King set me free.

Taunting the Christ while torment grew, dark crowds delivered scoffing.

Plaited so tight with duty firm, from his pledge He never turned.

Soldiers’ transgressions from great pride would manifest such erring,

This crown of thorns upon Christ’s brow arrayed His sure sacred vow.

Crown of thorns, this crown of thorns showed His royalty.

Through His pain and suffering, this King died for me.

Mocking from guards as death approached, displayed their triumph, hoping.

But this cruel crown upon His head showed his true strength as He led.

Then soon enough the Savior won those who would trust His bruising.

He showed the world in lasting love of His sure reigning above.
