YouTube video: Mary at the Cross, vocal solo
Text:
At the cross in tears I kneel,
As my Son hangs in agony,
Sorrow and anguish all I feel.
How has this all come to be?
I lift my eyes up to His face,
Lined with blood and sweat and tears,
Was there no one to take His place,
In overcoming sin and fear?
When old Simeon saw the Child,
And held Him in his arms,
His words to Jesus, strong and mild,
But to me of great alarm.
“A sword shall also pierce thy soul,”
Yea, his words are fulfilled this day,
For who can now make me whole?
Who can wipe all tears away?
My son, my son, of wondrous birth,
By the Spirit’s amazing grace,
Brought divinity to earth,
And cuddled Him in warm embrace.
But even in such awful pain,
He looks down in love at me,
And calls beloved John by name,
That for my care, he will see.
Such high hopes! Strong faith in God,
That the Messiah he would be!
By prophets anciently foretold,
To save mankind from misery.
But my faith is still not dead,
Is life for Him forever lost?
Ancient prophets have said,
With God all things are possible.
God overcomes all that was lost.
With God all things are possible.
