While shepherds tended holy flocks of sheep near Bethlehem,
An angel of the Lord appeared, proclaiming words for men:
Fear not; fear not . . . I bring great joy. The infant Christ is born!
I bring good tidings unto all; the world no longer mourns.

The glory of the Lord shone ‘round while then the angel spake:
For unto you is born this day a Savior for your sake.
All wrapped in swaddling clothes you’ll find the Baby Jesus dear.
O, go in haste and see Him now . . . the infant Christ is here!

Then suddenly a multitude of heavn’ly host sang out:
All glory to the God on high; on earth, peace all around.
Our saving Christ has come for us this very Christmas morn.
O praise our God for gifts of grace . . . the infant Christ is born!
