Text:
Darkness sweep over me.
Hide my sin and shame.
Mountains flow down on me.
Blot out my name.
Worthy my soul to be
Banished from the land.
Yet is there hope for me
In Thy outstretched hand?

How can I face my Lord
Knowing what I've done?
Guilt sears my very soul,
Scalds like the sun.
Mercy and grace withheld,
Never did I spare.
How can I ask for these?
Still Thy hand is there.

If I should take Thy hand,
Hard shall be my road.
Can I repent of all,
Lighten this load?
There in Thy hand I see
Marks of painful death.
Thy suff'ring, borne for all,
Grants me living breath.

Thy promises are sure,
E'en for one like me.
Justice will come to all.
Sin is not free.
Yet there is One who knows
Ev'ry sinner's heart,
Reaching His hand to each,
Mercy to impart.
