VERSE 1

Prophets of old in vision saw

A famine that spread across the land,

A famine of hearing the word of God,

Keys of the priesthood fled and gone.

Darkness covered the world

Yet they also spoke of a time of light

When the Lord would speak again to man,

And the covenants of salvation be revealed

With the fullness of the gospel found.

But the Lord could not come until men fell away,

When they searched for the truth once again.

For the promises of God are ever sure

That His gospel would be restored.

VERSE 2

After the Lord was crucified,

Apostles were scattered all abroad.

Though once plain and precious truth was taught,

Fables of men the people sought.

Darkness covered the world.

Though the quest for truth could not be quelled

And the search for freedom would go on,

For the Lord in mercy would listen to the pleas

Of the faithful who would seek His grace.

But the Lord could not come until men fell away,

When they searched for the truth once again.

For the promises of God are ever sure

That His gospel would be restored.
