A thought-provoking, sacred hymn. Text by Kathryn W. Hales below.

Watch on YouTube: Prison Doors

Prison doors were opened

For Peter and for Paul,

And for the coat-clad Joseph,

For Daniel, saved from a lion’s maul.

For Alma and for Amulek,

Nephi and Lehi too;

Why not countless others

Locked away from freedom’s view?

Why not brave Abinadi?

Or Joseph and Hyrum Smith?

Why not Christians in catacombs,

Or prisoners in Auschwitz?

Why was the prison door opened

For Barabbas, a murderer at heart,

While the innocent Christ was crucified,

One in whom there was no fault?

Why not those entrapped today

In prisons of mortal pain;

Why are the doors opened for a few,

While millions suffer long in vain?

Yet still the promise has been made,

And believe in it we must__

That all prison doors will someday open

If in God we trust.

Prison doors of pain and grief,

Of tragedy and shame,

Through the mercy of our Lord

All shall be free again.
